Well it seemed popular on Twitter

So I'm going to repeat myself here:

While writing today, was struck by how much I like writing about jacket lapels, and of characters holding them, touching them, and stuff.

It's like jacket lapels are the textile equivalent of labia.

There is your thought for the day.

I think I was just reading an article about gender isssues in the sciences where they talked about how speakers at conferences were expected to have jacket lapels to clip stuff to, but it's awkward because women's clothing doesn't do that. Lots of strange images now.

Pierre Trudeau must have been kinkier than I imagined, in that case...

As are the majority of costume designers for any period movie!

Oooh, no wonder I'm so into lapels. :) I'm right there with you on loving to write characters stroking/straightening lapels on a character with a coat. I'd buy your assessment about labia. But then, maybe it's the equivalent of strokable long hair since it's usually male characters with lapels and they need to be stroked, but their short hair is less inviting.

Oh, I love writing about playing with short hair too! But most of my normative female characters are shorter than their male love interests, so it's to the lapels I go! Especially when writing undressing scenes.

Collars and the way shirts look with the top buttons undone also evoke the same for me...
