My petition was sent off last Thursday. It was received Friday, 7th Feb.

Today is the 13th (well, the 14th by Malaysian time). My lawyer just received an email that my petition has been approved.

Tomorrow my lawyer will send me instructions on what else to do, particularly for the interview with the US Consulate.

Tuesday my lawyer will receive the paper notice, and she will FedEx it to me--so I'll receive it on my Thursday, maybe?? I will make an appointment to go to the US Embassy in KL to apply for a new visa. I'll probably have to shell out a couple more hundred dollars for processing.

I've never had a problem with the US Consulate here before (I've gotten two B visas before, and the F visa I got very cheerfully from my interviewer who congratulated me on getting into my PhD program). But that doesn't mean something can't go wrong on that end. Still, I've got a good lawyer who will fight that if necessary.

This visa is good for three years: March 1, 2020 to Feb 28, 2023.

My subletter has agreed to move out March 1 as we had previously agreed on, and I need to mail off a check to my housemates so my March rent is on time.

Congratulations! I had frankly given up hoping for anything rational coming out of my government's immigration personnel. It's good to know that sometimes some things still work.
