Western Songs on Traditional Malay Instruments

I'll be honest, this is more for my own pleasure than anything else, but these are too good not to share.

Kitaro's Matsuri played on caklempong (chaa-klEHm-pung), by IIUM's Andeka Caklempong Musical Group:

Michael Buble's Sway played on gamelan (gaa-may-lan):

Rihanna's Umbrella played on angklung (aang-klOHng):

Angklung aren't usually played as a huge range like that - usually it's just one note, or a few, held by one musician, creating a melody when a group of them play together, which makes that performance a bit more impressive. Here're angklung musicians (bamboo shakers) playing Mission Impossible:

Even kids can be coordinated to play these things - witness these 12 - 15 year olds playing the Beatle's Yesterday:

These are how they would rehearse, I imagine:

The joyful things one gets to share when researching!

Haha, that Umbrella clip was cool. I wonder if anyone noticed that was a Winamp visualization playing on the screen behind him?

It's not really uncommon at these sorts of shows. Gotta have some decoration!
