Dec. 4th, 2006 05:22 pmZip and I had breakfast at the hotel lounge, and she left around 9.30, because she's neurotic like me and wants to be at the airport super early.
I hung out online for a while, then checked out, and dropped by bag off at concierge and got a taxi to the Dixie Outlet Mall.
I've been told over and over that Toronto is good for shopping, which should have been my first clue to get a nap BEFORE shopping, and even then, the Dixie Mall didn't take me longer than an hour to finish all the stores before I figured out what I wanted. Now I'm thinking that to kill the proper amount of time, I should have taken Zip's advice and gone to that super-large shopping mall which is supposed to be the biggest in Ontario. I'm not sure if that's wise, because two hours of Dixie EXHAUSTED me (I get exhausted in shopping malls very easily when I'm just wandering around with no particular aim).
I'm an extremely practical shopper and I don't buy things I feel I won't ever wear. It's also guaranteed that in a rational mood and a budget, I'll buy two items per five stores I stop into. This means I economize in terms of clothes and I don't have that "just get it" mentality that my friends seem to encourage in me. It's also hard to buy stuff in Canada because I know I can usually get something similar for cheaper in Malaysia. Also, I'm completely packed full, and I'm doing half-a-ton of shopping in Malaysia anyway.
Anyways, I bought a pair of shoes from the Shoe Company, and two short-sleeved shirts and two long-sleeved shirts from Suzy Sheir (2/$10).
The taxi ride there was about $29, and the same for coming back. This reminds me a great deal of Malaysia, to be honest, where malls can be so far away from each other, one requires a car to get there. In fact, all the roads here need a car to get around in, since I'm not exactly in downtown Toronto.
There was a debacle with the taxi. He gave me his number so I could call him whenever I wanted to leave, but I left my cellphone in his taxi! I realized this early on, but I'd already said I'd call around 5.30-ish (I assumed I would need until 6pm to finish shopping, pfftt). I didn't want to worry too much, since it's an old phone and even if I completely lost it it wouldn't be a loss except for the fact that I have half-a-ton of numbers in there. Kinda had to keep thinking, "just roll with the punches... just roll with the punches..." So when I got some change, I called up the taxi company, which got in touch with him. Apparently his next customer found the cellphone and gave it to him, and he called the headquarters to let them know. So I called my cell and he answered it, and I told him to come get me at 3.
And I went to go buy my stuff, and I was done by 2pm, even with wandering into every fucking store.
I have such a short attention span.
I am also exhausted and I wish I had that bed to sleep in. I always need to sleep after getting back from shopping. I don't know how Roy expects me to spend the next few days shopping with him. Roy's not a very slow shopper though, so I don't imagine it'll be that bad. It's bad only when I'm forced to spend prolonged periods of time without being able to move from store to store quickly. If I don't see anything that interests me at first glance, I don't go in. Simple as that. I don't understand the whole idea of going into each store and checking out every single rack. Sam does this. My theory is that I like bright and shiney and flashy, so if I don't see it at first glance, I don't bother, whereas Sam likes to blend in, so she'll take her time finding something that suits that purpose.
It's now 4pm, and I'm not going anywhere until around 7pm or so... I wonder if the hotel staff will mind terribly if I napped in these chairs...?
