jhameia: ME! (Illuminated Idea)
A lot of people know I love earrings, seeing as I have four holes in each lobe. A few people know that I love costume jewellery in general, especially junk from Ardene's. Fewer have seen the vintage costume jewellery I've bought from Annie Sherman. I've bought a necklace, a bracelet and a necklace/earring set from her, and still hoping to get another beautiful pair of earrings from her.

Anyway, due to my cursory interest, I've become acquainted with some old vintage styles and sort of can recognize names.

So today, when I went to Mahone Bay with my dad, we stopped by a flea market, and I perused some of the costume jewellery there.

One brooch in particular caught my eye and I turned it over, and found it had an oval-plate on it for the designer name: Kramer.

Now, as soon as I saw this, I knew this was important, so I sort of begged my dad to get it for my mom. He also bought a vintage hat I was posing with that has a lace front... you know, one of those. You don't? I'll have to take a picture sometime.

I kept on looking at it while on the way (one of the things I did to distract myself from immense carsickness) and when I got home, I checked out Annie Sherman's website for the designer.

Annie Sherman (and a few other vintage costume jewellery sites) has this to say about Kramer:

"Kramer or Kramer of New York was a leader in making fine costume jewelry. They first used the mark around 1943, and produced jewelry using the best quality rhinestones available. The early Kramer jewelry is sought after by most ardent collectors of Kramer costume jewelry. Marked "Kramer of NY" and then "Kramer of NY City" and in the 1950s "Kramer" on oval plaque and after just "Kramer"."

I'm actually really pleased with myself right now. If my mother can't appreciate this, that's okay, I'll inherit it from her anyway.

Pics tomorrow when there's natural light!
