Two exchanges on my mind today
Jun. 18th, 2020 02:03 amthis bit from Joe Lansdale's Of Mice and Minestrone collection. Context: Leonard is black and gay, Hap is white and liberal, they are best mates and have just gone into a cafe where Leonard's cousin works. Said cousin was slightly mad that Leonard came in a customer. They have an argument about corn muffins. They get some other old white couple in on the cornbread muffin discourse.

Me: I had a dream this morning.
Roy, my brother: OK...
Me: I dreamed we bought a house over on 2D [we live on 2F] and we'd go in by the back gate, but mostly we'd stash stray cats we found in that house. So whenever we had friends come visit we'd be like "yeah you can stay in the cathouse! you just have to play with the cats.
Roy: That is the most bourgie thing I've ever heard you say.
Me: BUT we got it as a home office away from the parents!!! We JUST SO HAPPENED to also keep picking up cats and sticking them in it.
Roy: *gets up and leaves*
“Well now, y’all enjoy your breakfast,” Leonard said.
“You too,” said the man in the booth. “What’s that them frogs in France say. Bone up a tit.”
“I don’t think that’s exactly it,” I said.
“Close enough,” Leonard said. “Bone up a tit.”
