jhameia: ME! (Default)

For some reason I'm not a big fan of taking pictures, and then posting them. They kind of just languish on my hard drive as my personal records, not because I actually care about taking pictures for display.

So anyway, pictures under cut. Some of them I may have neglected to re-size before uploading.

I think I mentioned somewhere that at my Changi stop, United had booked me a room in the Terminal 2 transit hotel. Which was annoying because I came into Terminal 3 and was supposed to fly out of Terminal 3 anyway, so I had to make my way all the way over there. Anyway, for the curious, this is what the transit hotel rooms look like:

And with a shower and errthing!

Regina came to pick me up, and as she drove, I took my first picture, this is what much of what "The Inland Empire" looks like:

I didn't have the presence of mind to take before-and-after pictures, so here are some pictures of my apartment after I was more settled, as in, I had a bed and a table so I could actually chill out.

From the pathway to my block:

And from my front door, this is my patio:

Note that palm the corner.

Further in, from the kitchen, this is my living room/study:

The kitchen is pretty hooked up, I must say. There's more space to actually do stuff, compared to my Ontario apartments:

From the kitchen door, to the right, there is the "hallway closet":

I store boring things in there like my vacuum, folding chairs, an electric heater that Regina and Jon gave me, and jackets.

Turn right, and it's my bedroom!

The bedroom has a walk-in closet which I kinda like:

Turn left, and it's the bathroom:

I bought the most awesome shower curtain for it:

IT HAS POCKETS:

My bed's a nice double that cost me $499 for the mattress and box spring

That would be a... PINE CONE! in the corner.

When Bryan came over with some dirt, I made these very nice gnome graves:

Saved one edge for a compost heap, and I'll grow some bulb plants there come mid-October:

Things to plant:

One fine day I thought, let's tackle the palm in the corner, because I don't actually like it that much, and I'd rather grow something I can use around the house. I had a spade, a knife I randomly found in the ground outside my apartment, and a pair of pruning scissors, so I cut the roots, stabbed at the clay underneath, dug out the earth, kicked and kicked and kicked. Since the palm was laid down after the plastic weed-killing sheets, it was even more difficult because then I also had to deal with the sheet. Nonetheless, out it came:

So much ground uncovered!

MUAHAHA! I HAS CONQUERED:

Here's the first plant I stuck into the ground, an aloe vera from Home Depot:

It's, uh, being fussy, I think. I may have overwatered so it's not taking root as it should, so I've decided to just leave it alone and not water it for a couple of weeks. It's a succulent type so it should be fine.

I also now have basil and parsley, but that's not important, CHECK THIS OUT:

My beautiful hibiscus, blooming:

This is it today:

Because I cannot get enough of it, here's a single flower:

Yes. You're welcome.

Next post will be a bit more boring, I think. Anyways.
