jhameiaI'm organizing a TOTALLY AWESOME panel next week about race and racism in SF! The folks are going to talk indigenous futurisms, Afrofuturism, hiphop, and other cool stuff ^_____^ ALL WELCOME! While it's organized for grad students' benefit (those of us who are doing SF Studies) undergrads and people who aren't even in school are also welcome. And it's FREE! With food!!
WHAT! The Landscape of Race in Science Fiction, a Panel Discussion
WHEN! November 15, 2013, 1pm - 3pm, doors open 12.30pm
WHERE! InterDisciplinary South, 1113, UC Riverside
WHO! Dr. Yolanda Moses - moderator: Anthropology, also Vice-Chancellor of Equity, Diversity and Excellence for UCR!
Dr. Sherryl Vint, English dept, Canadian transplant (stolen from Brock U) working on bodies and biopolitics! Also a co-founder of the Science Fiction and Technoculture Studies Designated Emphasis program at UCR!
Dr. Jayna Brown, Ethnic Studies, working on ethnic performance and hiphop! She is also leading a grad seminar on Afrofuturism next quarter so if you are in the UC system you should totally come!
Nalo Hopkinson, also another founder of the SFTS DE, and you know, writer of many award-winning books and short fiction and bastion of general awesomeness.
I'd love it if my internet peoples could come! I've invited POC profs and grad students, and some undergrads too. You'd get to meet a bunch of awesome people associated with UCR's science fiction group. Even if you can't make it, I'd really appreciate it if you could spread the word ^^
