jhameiaSo, life has been plodding. I graded mid-terms and I'm pleased to have many As in my stack, but lots of failures as well.
There was also a reading by Karen Joy Fowler this afternoon I could not make it to, but I did manage to remember to head out this evening to have dinner with her. Oddly very few people came? One of the faculty for the SF studies working group sent out a stern message asking us why we weren't coming and he sounded really frustrated. I don't know... I know I go to all the events relevant to my research, and sometimes even to events not relevant to my research.
It was nice hanging out, of course. And on the way, I discovered the existence of a Hackerspace right here in Riverside!! It's not even that far from where I currently am either... very exciting stuff. Nalo and I are thinking of checking it sometime.
There's an all-day conference tomorrow and I'm a bit tired of all day things but I said I'd at least go in the morning to support my fellow grad students, and it looks like there're some interesting panels in the afternoon too. Bah! I might have to just bring my grading to the room and work while listening.
Spoke to an eldergrad today, and she assured me, "nobody really reads everything on their quals list" which made me feel modically better. I also spoke to my ETST prof about her being in my committee and she said yes! Note to self: send her an email with potential reading list.
