HELLO MATEYS! I had a killer diller week. On Tuesday? I had THREE, three-hour seminars, BACK TO BACK! I'm still getting my bearings. I also marked papers for 7 hours straight on Friday evening! I'm still recovering but this recovery should be faster because I have a presentation on Tuesday. Nonetheless! I spent yesterday killing time by whittling down my Google Reader stuff. And now, links!

re: I like your hijab
At first I was put off by how the writer builds a fantasy concept based on her hijab and interprets her wardrobe at will. Then in the latter half he seems to acknowledge that he's doing these things because to express his opinions openly to her might be "insulting." In the end, I just feel that the world needs to communicate more with each other.

I find it deeply troubling, because it smacks of the creepster "I want to tell her how much I lust for her but can't for fear I'll be seen as a bad bad person so instead I'll just moan about it somewhere else more PUBLIC" predilection. I'm also incredibly put off by the concept of opining on someone else's wardrobe as some credible basis for a potential friendship / relationship when really, he could just be talking to her. So, yeah, I feel the same way you do that the world needs to communicate more with each other, but taking some responsibility for participating in a tradition of "talking about you without talking to you" done by a more powerful group would be nice...

Well, he does point out that one of the tensions is that he's gay, and the religion which motivates her wearing the hijab frowns on his existence.
