SM STIRLING FOUND MY ANALYSIS OF HIS PESHAWAR LANCERS AND WAS VERY UNHAPPY WITH IT.

He's going by joatsimeon. I thought he was just a fan so I entertained him until I followed through to his URL and laughed and laughed. And left his last comment alone.

There should be some sort of score-keeping mechanism for "number of major authors I've honked off" or something like that. ;)

Its existence pushes on me.

You're not missing anything. In fact, I think it is a book you would throw across the room.

I would have, but Said my postcolonial squirrel peed on it, saving me the trouble of a dramatic expression of disgust for it =)

I've known it was a book that would be massively triggery for me at best, so I haven't read it, but it's always had that "so what is that book" hook into my brain. WELL EXORCISED NOW :D

And yay for Said!

It kinda pisses me off because it could have been so interesting. But in the end it wasn't. It just didn't push enough. It was lazy through and through. Sadface.

I think I... might have tried to read that once? Didn't it have steam-powered airplanes or am I thinking of something else?

You are thinking of something else. This one's a Still Colonized British India because the Global North has been destroyed by comets.

What's with white straight male authors getting so defensive with their work?

Ugh. Butcher. Now Stirling.

*amused snort*

Oh but this is a different sort of defensiveness though. Butcher is all IT'S JUST FANTASY and Stirling actually *has a logic* attached to his worldbuilding.

From what I hear, that's exactly what he is. I guess knowing that he trawls the Internet defending his work from critics though makes it a bit less special...
