Blackamazon started a meme of some sort on Tumblr, with a challenge:

Let’s have a project cause I wanna see something.- Reblog this post.

I want you vision for a more just world in regards to sexual and economic violence the *hot topics* of the hour.

Here are the rules:

- Can’t start with a negative statement- “where we are not” or NO MORE…. nope sorry you have to want something AFFIRMATIVE
- can’t center around who you are taking from- this is about BUILDING so no discussion of anybody but the people you do this FOR
- you have to state one selfish goal out loud
- One of them has to be LOCAL

I am asking to see if I can mobilize all my followers ( I know all 10 of ya’ll will hold me down) to circle it out to this ” SJ ” community and see if our so called leaders and thinkers actually have vision.

You can also reblog this with bets on what happens….

Would be cool to see what folks would answer to this quest for a vision. Copy and answer on your own blog?

Apparently I missed the mark for economic and sexual violence, but I thought hard about what would make sense for a more economically-just and less sexually-violent world starting with the only town I know well, Halifax, and this is what I came up with:

I want to see rents in commercial downtown regulated so small businesses which have been there forever can continue operating, as it’s the small businesses which have lent downtown Halifax prosperity all this while.

I would also like to see a rent freeze for buildings owned by big businesses. They’re the ones who tend to keep raising rent. (And can we get a price freeze on electricity, too? That price hike in 2008 was ridiculous.) This is to enable folks to be able to keep living in the same apartment that they’ve been living in, usually for a long while.

I want to see more policies and resources for the homeless, more visible soup kitchens, and more knowledge-sharing among the general public of shelters and support. The public should be able to know where they can donate non-perishable items to more easily. I know Google is useful, but there ought to be more places to get info, and knowledge of it should be more widespread.

I want all geographic limits on sex workers lifted, and I want it made illegal for police to pick up sex workers just for working. Sex work is work. And I want policy in place to ensure police work closely with sex workers to prevent crime on the streets, WITHOUT silencing sex workers. I want the city of Halifax to acknowledge sex work as a reality in the city.

I want Africville preserved. I want Nova Scotia resources invested into re-building it and giving the black families who lived there the home they want, rather than ignoring it and neglecting it before finally deciding it’s too gross to exist and tearing it down. You can’t just pack people up and move them as you like.

I’m not sure what’s up with the new Farmer’s Market, but I want it more accessible for people with disabilities, with rotating rosters of the different farmers of Nova Scotia, to make sure all Nova Scotian agriculture workers have a chance to sell locally. If we can have all the different farmers in once a week (rather than several days of the week… one of the complaints and concerns I heard is that if farmers have to come into town a few days a week, that’s more time taken off from tending the farm itself, to risk not having goods sold), it should keep us with enough variety to rival the local superstores.

Not that the local grocery stores are all bad, of course, but I also want them to pay all their workers a living wage. Them and all big businesses in town. (All the small businesses I knew tried to pay the non-owners more than minimum wage. If they can care that way, CEOs should, too.)

Also, major infrastructure revamp on all new buildings to become more accessible for people with disabilities. I’m still not sure what to do with the heritage buildings but someone else might have the answer.

I want a hike in minimum wage. I think a lot of problems could be solved in Halifax if everyone was making a living wage.
