jhameia: ME! (Call To Arms)

Yoinked from [livejournal.com profile] kaiousei:

First Year Students: "What? People care about attendance? This is University! I'm supposed come to class and do my work if and when I want to!"
Dawn: "GO TO DAL! Do not pass go, do not collect $200."

Why is this quote awesome?

1) Because it makes fun of stupid first-year students (and pretty much all other students who have that attitude).
2) It makes more fun of Dal than I've seen all week. Not that the Hole in the City song isn't good, it just doesn't share the same sweet simplicity of this quote!
3) Using a Monopoly allusion, no less, YES.

It's just in general that here, if you don't come to class, you don't get a lot of material. There's required reading, and there's material covered in class. Then there're the discussion sessions which are vital in forming a critical analysis of the stuff you're supposed to be learning (otherwise it's just swallowing everything the prof tells you, which isn't the point in most Arts classes).

If you can cut class AND learn, that's one thing. But most students don't. You're an exception, Nolan, not a rule, and the general rule is, if you're cutting class and treating university like a bird course, you're not learning anything.

Sure, you may not learn just by attending classes, but attending class with the slight chance you might actually get something is a sight better than cutting class NOT learning.

That, and if more people were like you Nolan we'd probably wouldn't really need universities :P
