jhameia: ME! (Call To Arms)
[personal profile] jhameia

Okay, I'll admit. I don't hate Mabel. I just really dislike her. We used to piss each other off on a regular basis. I didn't want to talk to her (I found her patronizing; she would say she was being sisterly and that made me not want to talk to her more and she'd get mad because I wasn't taking her advice and just ugh), and she used to insist on talking to me anyway. It made her angry when I was cold to her, and then she'd do something which ME angry, and it was a back-and-forth game of Let's Piss Each Other Off. We don't even MEAN it. It just happens. For my sanity I just cut off all contact and even avoid her if I notice her anywhere. I purposefully avoid posting in any threads where she has the last post. I also avoid threads of hers if she starts it.

It's true that if you Google-search my regular handle, you'll find my e-mail address easily enough. Most of them on NaNoWriMo and the SMUSA forums which have nothing to do with modeling.

That doesn't mean you get to filch it and give it to someone for modeling purposes unless I give express permission for it (such as the MSVU life art drawing group). Mabel's on ModelMayhem. So am I. There was no reason she couldn't have used that to message me and ask if I was interested. In fact, she could've used MM's browse functions to look for Malaysian models as well.

And it's WORSE when you give any email to someone and say "Don't tell them where you got it."

Am I going to think that there's something sketchy going on? HELL YEAH! "Hi, I got your e-mail address and I can't tell you where I got it from." THAT'S not sketchy? What an awful first impression that makes. Mabel as much admits that it's looking out for herself. Well, guess what, YOU MANAGED TO SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF ME!!!!!

Knowing it came from her, even at the outset, would've been nice. It honestly doesn't matter that it came from her. Ignoring a potential contact just because she introduced me is just stupid. It's like... breaking up with my best friend for continuing to talk to her, or something really stupid. You know.

The next thing? Her accusation that I'm not behaving professionally. That I'm "dissing the photographer". Firstly, this IS my LJ, last I checked. I get to put whatever hubris I damn well like. Also, whatever attack I get, I give as good as it gets.

And "dissing the photographer"? All I said was "he doesn't speak good English. I can't stand it when people can't speak good English." It's not a diss; IT'S A FUCKING FACT. Does that mean I quit all correspondence to him? NO. I continued emailing back and forth, and I've actually been very civil in my emails. The fact that he can't speak good English is DEFINITELY a barrier for ME. Why? Because very often, when talking to ESL speakers, I have to dumb down my language in order to accommodate their linguistic level. This makes it VERY hard in articulating certain ideas.

Will it stop me? It hasn't yet. Guzzz Photography had a very heavy accent since he's a French speaker and he teased me for correcting his English, too. If you're truly ensconced in your artistic vision, you'll communicate it eventually. No, I probably wouldn't have tolerated it from a random guy trying to get to know me. But artists are different. You don't turn down an artist just because of the language barrier.

Having trouble with the "contradiction" of me saying that this situation is sketchy AND I still say he's a legit photographer? Grow up. There're photographers out there who're excellent in their field. They make money. They do good work. But they're also assholes and sleazebags to deal with. You can be a high-powered executive and STILL be a jackass. It's not a contradiction. It's part of life.

Next up, "the photographer chooses the model, not the other way around." Well, yes and no. This is a TRADE shoot. I'm NOT a commercial model. I don't have an agency who tells me who to shoot with. I'm a freelance amateur model in this for the kicks and the ART of it. As a result, I can say "Thanks but no thanks" anytime I want. It's true, the photographer ultimately has to decide whether the model is right for his shoot or not, but I have gone out seeking TF* shoots with photographers I want to shoot with. And you know, it's perfectly okay for me to say no. The photographer doesn't lose because there're TONS of models out there who want stuff in their port. I'm not getting paid, so I don't appreciate being told what to do and what not to do without my permission.

The topic is beginning to bore me, but the correspondence with the photographer is going very well. I believe he's got very good compositional technical skills, and I'd love to see what he can produce when given more creative ideas.

I'd still think Mabel shouldn't have said "Don't Let Her Know" and just come out clean to you.
