Yesterday was the 35th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade - the court case which made abortion legal in the States. I don't know what kind of effect it had on Canada, but seeing how people are trying to repeal the case all over the States, I felt it was necessary to say something about it today and celebrate it by affirming my rights to have sexual agency, my right to accessibility to contraceptives, and my right to make judgement calls on my body when the time is needful.
Today, Feministing brings to my attention more good news!: Cambridge, Massachussetts, voted in their new mayor. You know what this is significant?
The new mayor is homosexual.
The new mayor is black (a visible minority).
The new mayor is a woman.
Now, she's probably not the first gay mayor in existance, or the first black mayor in existance, but it is still good news nonetheless.
It will be a GOOD era when things like this happen and it's not a ground-breaking, glass-ceiling-smashing event.
