Barring the Sandman stuff, of course.
Anyways, have a look at this:

Comic characters.
Actually, comic character. Singular.
Yes, they're the same person.
So how does a black woman with brown eyes and an afro go from that to having short, cropped hair with white skin and blue eyes?
Apparently, we have to change characters in terms of appearances and histories and shit like that in order to keep with the times. Reinvent them just so they remain relevant.
Hmmmmmm. No.
Because even when you change a character to fit a "what if", you still have to remain consistent with the character's history, past, culture and appearance. You can't just go changing whatever willy nilly just because you think that's what the consumers want.
There's a term for that kind of bullshit.
nolan_ash promoted this idea a while back. The term is "bad fanfiction writer."
Anyways, got this from Racialicious: Look Who's Been Vixenified This Time
This continues the vein started here ("The First Time Is A Coloring Error") and continued here.
Also good reading: Digital Femme calling out this silencing of people of colour and her great discussion on black hair. I love that last link. Snippet:
This is not your mother's Afro. Wait, this is not my mother's Afro. Your mother didn't have an Afro. If she did, you wouldn't need to be reading this.
