Halifax People Are Very Nice.
Oct. 20th, 2008 01:50 pmThis was part of my conversation with the owner of Fashionably Dead, which is a new store that opened on Blowers St a month or so ago. I stopped in there because --
Wait, rewind to YESTERDAY.
Yesterday, I walked down to Paperchase for the meetup, still groggy since the night before,
kaousei got me walking all over downtown for Nocturne (art festival with tons of galleries open for the event past regular hours and projected art on walls here and there downtown) and I got home only at 2am.
On the way to Paperchase, I dropped into Night Magic because somehow or another, I lost my waist corset - I have NO fucking clue where it went to. I know I had it last because the last person I borrowed it to was Brittany and I know Brittany gave it back to me. Anyways, I wanted to bring my waist corset along to my Halloween shoot because it would look vaguely steampunk to have my ruffled blouse and corset along with my giant heffalump lab coat.
At Paperchase, one of the new staff (all the old staff I used to know and love no longer work there *sniff sniff*) stopped to help me and I asked him about corsets and we talked about that for a bit, and I explained what I wanted it for, and he mentioned getting goggles from Fashionably Dead and maybe I should check it out. I knew Fashionably Dead had been open for the last month or so, but it sounds like, you know, goth stuff that doesn't actually interest me that much. I'm not the kind to walk around with skulls on my clothes and lots of black kinda depresses me, but! It sounded interesting, so I resolved to look for it at some point.
Also, the guy I spoke to at Night Magic said he wanted to do NaNoWriMo, so score one for us! I may have to go back in at some point to tell him in person about the Kick-Off and Write-In, but I do hope he comes! (Also, he is cute. Much like bookstore guy - did I ever tell you about bookstore guy? My money is on him having a girlfriend, too. Oh well.)
The meetup yesterday went very well - we had a new member who's published a non-fiction book, and he was surprised at how young most of us were, but it was a good time, and we had fun, and we spoke to complete strangers about it.
I forgot to pay my tab, so I had to go back this morning to pay it. I figured I could pay my phone bill while downtown too.
After paying my tab at Paperchase, I dropped into Fashionably Dead to check out their merch, and crap it's kinda awesome in there! I saw a couple of things I already want, and despite the newness of the store, the novelty of being able to browse through that kind of merch far outweighs the fact that they can be bought online. I don't know about you, but I'm a very hands-on buyer.
So, on my list are an adorable waist corset similar to the one I lost, except it has stripes, and it's cloth rather than leather. About the same quality as the one I had, too, which is good - most mass-produced corsets don't really have the same steel boning. Also, a cincher with lots of buckles and it's kinda really awesome and I have no pictures so you'll have to take my word on it.
I got to talking to the owner, Kate, who's really awesome nice and super-neat. She moved here from Calgary just a year ago, and after running Fashionably Dead online for a while she set up the store here since there isn't a whole lot of stuff for the goth scene here. We both agreed that Halifax people are just so darn nice.
Then I left, with a promise to return, went to pay my phone bill, walked through Public Gardens on the way home, stopped by Superstore and Shoppers.
Oh, and at Shoppers on Friday, I went in and was in such a good mood that I bought three new brushes and four feather lashes. The beauty consultant was so infected by my good mood she gave me a ton of freebies: three boxes of nails (two glow-in-the-dark, one red), and samples of the new Hugo XX scents - body lotion and shower gel, AND a little red notebook with the XX brand on the front. With all these things, I also got the points I needed for the new JLo Luxe perfume + shower gel + body lotion. And three packets of Malteses.
And on the way home today, I adopted an earthworm off the sidewalk. I don't understand why earthworms cross sidewalks. Anyways, it looked dead, but I poked it to be sure, and it wasn't, so I picked it up, put it on my sleeve, and took it home to my compost heap. Hopefully it will thrive in there. And that I don't accidentally kill it.
My good days are always very good.
I want to bake cookies but I'm out of sugar, plus Dad's care package is in the Post Office and I can't carry it because I'm a weakling and can't carry a 20kg box. Hmmmmm...
Oh, and p.s. you people who want to see my modeling pics. Clickums.
