These are little ficlets which have little snapshots of what I imagine a larger Harry Dresden / Hermione Granger fic would be comprised of. Which I'll get around to writing. Eventually. But writing it like this is so much more fun!
So, I'll take my cue from
ardwynna_m (whose AeriSeph ficlets also inspire me) and present to you in no particular order, the ficlets I wrote today!
Title: Meeting the Parents
Characters: Hermione Granger, Harry Dresden, Hermione's parents
Wordcount: 99
Hermione poked her head around the doorjamb to look into the kitchen. “What do you think?”
Karen doubtfully did the same. “Well, he seems very nice.”
Lou cheerfully passed the next dish to Harry. “So, Harry… what do you do for a living?”
Harry wiped the plate clean. “Well. I, uh. I’m a freelancer. You know. I do a little bit here and there. There’s not much money, but it’s a living, and I get by.”
“Oh yeah? What do you do?”
“Well.” Harry thought for a moment whether to lie or go with the truth. “I’m a wizard.”
Title: Bob's Concerned
Characters: Hrothbert of Bainbridge (Bob), Harry Dresden
Wordcount: 100
“I really don’t see how there’s an argument at all, Harry,” Bob said, dusting his sleeve.
“She’s a lovely, intelligent, mature young woman. She knows about the magical world. She’s an accomplished young witch, and may I add, her intellect is far superior to yours-“
“I get the picture, Bob,” Harry groaned, sinking into his seat.
“Not to mention, you haven’t had any female company for the last while-”
“Wait a minute,” Harry interrupted, “there’s Murphy.”
“You know what I mean.” Bob gave Harry a Meaningful Look.
Harry cringed and spread his hands. “Bob!”
“You need to get laid, Harry.”
Title: Arriving in Chicago
Characters: Hermione Granger, Harry Dresden
Wordcount: 200
Hermione Granger’s broom wobbled as it descended past the clouds above Chicago. She gulped at the sight of the big city – it looked more intimidating than the cities of Australia she had been searching! She swooped down and was caught in an updraft, knocking her towards the city.
She quickly cast a spell of invisibility over herself so the Muggles wouldn’t see her, and crashed onto the side of a building, falling down onto a dumpster below. She gasped for air, and started crawling between the garbage bags.
“Whoa! Are you okay?” a friendly voice called, and a rumpled young man came running towards her.
“Oh, thank you, but, I’m – I’m fine.” She heaved herself up and fell back down among the garbage bags again.
“Here, lemme give you a hand,” he said, reaching out and lifting her out. “Looks like quite a fall,” he remarked, looking bemusedly at the wall of the building, which had no windows nor fire exit stairs.
“Yes, well, thank you,” Hermione said hurriedly, bending down to pick up her broom. “And, ah, I’ll be on my way.”
“You sure you don’t need anything?”
“No,” she insisted. “I’ll be fine, Mister- uh-”
“Dresden. Harry Dresden.”
Title: Hermione in Morgan's Office
Characters: Hermione Grange, Warden Donald Morgan
Wordcount: 100
Morgan looked over the papers one more time. “I’m sorry, Miss Granger, but I simply cannot help you. Mortals with no connection to magic of any kind are not within our jurisdiction, unless directly threatened.”
Hermione gripped her broom until her knuckles were white. “There must be something you can do.”
“I can see to it that you have whatever you need,” Morgan offered, “but as of this time, we have far too many, more urgent cases to deal with.”
“I see… thank you.” Hermione rose to leave.
“Do you have the appropriate currency? lodgings?”
“Yes,” she said flatly. “Thanks.”

Of course, this is the only ship I've ever really created, so....
