Stardust passes the Bechdel Test. Lamia talks to Yvaine about the joys of having a hot bath. Lamia and Ditchwater Sal talk about the fallen star. The witches also talk about stuff other than men, marriage or babies. (I love how the screenwriters saw entrail-reading as an answer to just about everything, the function being similar to our Google.)

Also, bonus material has more of the dead brothers, and it is hilarious, because the brothers kinda show physical affection for each other. It's cute. ^^

And I don't think I could ever get tired of Captain Shakespeare. It's not in the book at all, but the air pirates are such a wonderful critique on the performance of masculinity. Yvaine being taught piano is a performance of femininity. Gendered? Yes. But ultimately self-reflexive.

I'm not going to say it's better than the book because they're two different animals altogether, but all in all, very satisfying.

Never heard of the Bechdel Test before, yet I am proud to say my Magnum Opus/ passes with flying colors. (No, you don't get to read it until it's finished, which is a long time coming. Sorry.)

The trouble with it is there are also a great many movies that pass the test that are also crap. YMMV.

The problem with the moviemaking industry in general is that any interesting movies will NOT pass the Bechdel Test. They're set up in such a way not to (http://thehathorlegacy.com/why-film-schools-teach-screenwriters-not-to-pass-the-bechdel-test/). So we end up with a lot of movies where women DO talk to each other about stuff other than MM&B, but because they're crap, the assumption starts being that women characters aren't worthwhile. So no good movies get produced which pass the Bechdel test.

Oh, there are far more problems with the movie industry than that!

I know that. :P I probably should have said "one of the problems".

The Bechdel Test is still a neat starting point for critiquing movies.
