Saturday: Oh hi Aisha! Just letting you know that we'll be here in the Paperchase Cafe for the whole day again this year! OH WAT? UR ONLY OPEN AT 9, NOT 8 LIKE I THOUGHT? Ooops! HOW EMBARRASSING. Post post post, hey folks! I was stupid and the Chase is only open at 9! Oh dear. OH
frazzledog! You're coming over? AND BRINGING THE GOODIE BAGS? Oh boy. I TOLD YOU NOT TO USE GLITTER! DIDNT I TELL YOU THAT GLITTER WAS THE HERPES OF CRAFTS? OH NO NOW YOU HAVE IT ALL OVER MY FLOOR! DAMMIT
frazzledog WHY'D YOU GIVE ME THE GODDAMN FUCKING HERPES?
This morning, 6am: OH HEY IM AWAKE
Diana: ITS ONLY 6
Me: O RITE. DST. FUCK! back to bed
7am: Let's wake up and prep to go down, and take a taxi because it's TRULY DISGUSTING OUT.
8am: HI GEORGE! (proprieter of Paperchase, takes care of the magazine store downstairs) SORRY ABOUT BUSTING IN AT THIS TIME! Time to set up about 3 power bars with really long cords all over the ground so we will definitely have power. WILL YOU REALLY LOOK OUT FOR PEOPLE, GEORGE? THANKS UR THE BEST!
9am: People are coming in! People are coming in!
10am: HAY GUYZ, WORDCOUNT PLS: 27,649 People are looking at us weird because we are like, a dozen strong already with laptops and all at work. Everyone passing by is doing a double-take, triple-take.
11am: HAY GUYZ, WORDCOUNT PLS: 40,580 Oh wow we are totally getting crowded in here! Also, HOT competition between Tristan, Brandy and Brian, as they race neck to neck in the 10k's for a free cupcake!
12pm: HAY GUYS, WORDCOUNT PLS: 51,212
1pm: Oh man, I am getting really wiped. I have no idea how many words I have. I am sleepy. Also, word wars are not getting done. Oh nos. =( HAY GUYZ WORDCOUNT PLS: 61,691
2pm: We are totally running out of space. HAY GUYS, WORDCOUNT PLS: 66,043 And I am totes going to take a nap.
3pm: OR NOT! Fifteen minutes later and I iz awake and I iz like,
frazzledog wha? Can't you just take my wordcount from my laptop? WORDCOUNT: 77,728 OMG PPL! CAN WE HIT 100k TODAY? Also, people have left while I took my nap. WTF? I would've woken up to say goodbye! T_T And apparently, everyone ELSE didn't know where I was.
4pm: 94,092! No wait, I can't count people, apparently, and forgot one person's wordcount: 96029
5pm: The most unproductive hour, it seems: 96,679 COME ON PEOPLE! ONLY 4K! We already have people hitting 13k by this point. Or more. 15k?
6pm: 100,874 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We freak out the other guests in the cafe. By this time, the cafe staff are pretty used to our shenanigans. People are happy. They come in with 100 words, and leave with 1000++. They came in with 0, but leave with a good start that they can be happy with.
7pm: 108,793 Around this time, we start to peter off, and one of our WriMos who is a journalism student at King's starts to interview us. Also, a random lady who came to check out the art sees us hard at work and starts going around asking us about our novel. She introduces herself. She probably also thinks we're quite insane. In a nice way.
7.45pm: 114,894!!! I am wiped. I am DONE. I will not be seen on the face of the planet.
8pm: Am walking with a WriMo to get some McDonald's. I deserve it. I was walking around chatting with people making sure they stayed on track (well.... best that I could anyway) and I am TIRED. And I have no yet fallen apart. People still think I'm scary / cheerful. I am still together. I have once again passed for normal. In fact, even with my walking around and chatting people up, I've still managed a whopping 10k. Imagine what I could have accomplished if I hadn't been ML, busy-bodying around? Ah, me.
It took 8k words before my heroine met the hero. It took another 1k words before they even started TALKING. WHAT ARE YOU DOING, HEROINE? YOUR HUSBAND-TO-BE DOES NOT NEED THAT MUCH CHARACTERIZATION. HE IS NOT THE HERO.
My current wordcount: 10,351
The first act is over. Heroine has met Hero. When I can get back to writing, Heroine Helps Hero Build A Helicopter. ... No, not really. Sigh.
