Things I of note I recall over the last year:
Jan: NYE with Elie. I also met
melissagrey while enroute back to Malaysia in NYC, for the first time since we first met online in 2001. Holy crap.
Feb: Spending Lunar New Year with my family in Bali.
March: Receiving letter of acceptance from McMaster. Also, the Victorientalism bullshit.
April: Packing.
May: I met
dmp for the first time in over a year of email communiques! SPWF and WisCon! Traveling with my dad in Cape Breton and across provinces. Finding my current apartment. This was possibly my busiest month ever.
June: My first ever short fiction sale! Thank you,
spacehawk!
July: Not much of note this month that I can recall off the top of my head.
August: Moved into my current apartment. Got to know Hamilton. Discovered basements are always 5'c colder than upstairs. ALWAYS.
September: School started! I have an office and everything!
October: School is kicking my ass! I actually SPEND TIME IN THE OFFICE and everything!
November: School is STILL kicking my ass! NaNoWriMo is too, to a lesser degree. I had a lot less fun this time around, because I didn't quite get out as much. I also make another sale!
December: I finished 3 term papers in a daisy row! Ottawa! A plan for my project!
Other notable things I managed to do throughout the year:
- Maintain the Sunday Linkfests, which, I think, are actually getting noticed!
- Make friends with incredible people like
nisi_la and
tithenai and
troubleinchina AND meet them in real life too.
- Make friends online like tons of Tumblrites! I don't know how. But all the new people I met this year? I'm so thankful for you.
- Continue working on writing. I now have like three book things percolating in my head.
- Do decently in grad school. I'm actually really happy with my academic life.
Other notable things I wished I got to do throughout the year:
- Get laid more regularly. ... Well, get laid, period.
- Write more fiction.
- Write more poetry.
Things I look forward to in 2011:
- Presenting at Nova Albion, SPWF, WisCon35, Canadian National Steampunk Exhibition.
- Meeting more excellent people!
- Writing my Major Research Project!
Things to aim for next year:
- A professional SFWA-qualifying sale.
- Finishing another novel.
- Write more poetry. I may be terrible at it, but I miss it.
- Submit stuff for academic publication, maybe an academic conference.
- KICKING ASS IN MY MAJOR RESEARCH PROJECT BOO YEAH!
