Crappy GREs, crappy Internet
Oct. 23rd, 2011 07:38 pmSo, on the day I was supposed to take practice GREs? My internet crapped out. I thought it'd be temporary and while waiting, rearranging my bookshelf, cleared out old files I didn't need anymore, and read some.
BUT? Approaching 4.30pm, and still no Internet, so I hied down to Starbucks to get online, and I sat on the floor to DO THE FUCKING PRACTICE GREs WTF.
Also, I have discovered my math skills are worth shit (20% correct answers in quantitative reasoning, but it may have something to do with quitting the third section because I couldn't handle it anymore) and I am either tired or too stupid to hit the desired 90% for verbal reasoning. Which might be something one gets for falling back on swearwords all the time.
Given how many deadlines are in mid-December for so many US schools, I think I'm doomed.

Date: 2011-10-23 11:51 pm (UTC)fwiw I found taking multiple practice GREs out of one of the test prep books over a couple weeks to be really helpful - it's basically learning how to game the damn thing. Which, of course, sucks and we shouldn't have to do it, but... it helped.
Many of my "wrong" verbal-reasoning answers were just judgment calls that they didn't like, so I found that calibrating to their scale helped. And most of their math problems revolve around the same dozen or so tricks, so again, remembering those helped.
& several of the GRE prep books seem to be online as PDFs. But of course, this rather requires having the time to do it.

Date: 2011-10-23 11:59 pm (UTC)Thanks for the tip though! I mean, I think I have the time. At the very least, Riverside's deadline is Jan 5 so I have a chance there...?

Date: 2011-10-24 12:30 am (UTC)Yeah :( so much so. And I *could not* manage the verbal part, at all, until I consciously learned how to game it.
And *hugs* 'n good luck, and you definitely have time calendar wise, so long as, y'know, you have time in the days.

Date: 2011-10-24 08:14 pm (UTC)My verbal reasoning is 78%, so I'm not fretting. Working on a kick-ass statement of purpose right now...
