Ann Vandermeer asked me to re-write an essay I did on steampunk for her upcoming anthology Steampunk: Revolution and what she's asking for is so complex, this is going to become a monster thesis before I say everything I want to say.

Nonetheless, I am a master of whittling down complex ideas into single paragraphs, so let's just write this and see what the final wordcount becomes.
