- I've had this itch from the leech bite that I got back in October, and finally went to the doctor to do something about it. My family's been going to see Doctor Choo since I was a kid, and while I haven't gone to see him in well over a decade, I run into him regularly while walking the dog in the evenings.
When he saw me, he thought my dog had finally bit me or something, and I had to explain that no, I've got a leech bite, and I pulled the leech off, but something must have been left behind. A friend suggested maybe its teeth, since I quite unceremoniously ripped it off me, rather than use the fung yao on my dad (in my defense, I didn't know he had it, and didn't know how simple it would be to use it). Either way, the bite has kind of calcified?? Or hardened, because my body's been building up a wall around the irritants. So the doctor had to cut it out.
And that's how I've got a piece of my thigh sitting in a vial of formaldehyde on my shelf. Dad says when it's sat long enough, we'll try to cut it up and see what we can find inside of it, maybe the leech teeth.
For science!
- I finally did a bunch of laundry of my nice not-daily clothes. I tend to recycle clothes if I don't sweat in them, or if they're worn for such a short time it's not worth it. So quite a few pieces haven't been washed in.... uh, years. And it's not necessarily bad but lately I've been sensing the dust on them, and since the weather is really conducive to hangdrying (AND I don't get dinged for drying my clothes in my front garden!!!), I did all my clothes. Today I did the stuff I need to handwash.
Unfortunately, right towards the end, about five minutes before I was gonna collect the last 4 shirts that were aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalmost dry, the wind blew so hard it knocked over the aluminium rack, and my shirts.... fell onto my mom's lily containers -_-;;;;
I've never resented my mom's lilies so much before. They were one of the things she brought back from the Setia Eco Park house. Mostly they're lined up between the grass and driveway to prevent the dog from pooping in the garden. I think it's a shitty place to put them, as does everyone else in the house, except my mom.
- Been swimming as often as I can, but we've been getting thunderstorms in the afternoon, gah. Makes me wonder if I should try to switch up my timing and go earlier in the day. But I like going at 3pm--that's midnight in California, and if I wake up early enough, that's a solid 6 hours of work I can log in for the "previous day" on Clockify in one sitting, since I can't seem to wake up early enough.
- I'll be involved in two Kickstarters in the coming weeks, it seems! One a a writer; I contributed to World Weaver Press' RECOGNISE FASCISM anthology, and the pre-order Kickstarter will go up next week or so.
The other is an anthology of parenthood in SFF, which I'll be editing if it gets funded. The organisers are Mike Chen, Keena Roberts, and KA Doore, who I know on Twitter. I've met Mike before as well.
- Gonna try to handsew my embroidery pieces onto sticks I've been picking up lately, see if I can make them into little hanging scrolls. I'd do it by machine, but the stepdown transformer my dad has is broken somehow. I can't just plug in using a regular converter because the machine goes out of control--one soft step on the pedal and the needles VROOMS like MAD.
