David Eddings has died.
And yes, as much as he was a formula writer, a bit of a hack, and had few PoC in his stories that I read (Belgariad: Ce'Nedra was a Dryad, but she could be Mediterannean, Zakath was probably Asian, and Sadi was clearly Middle-Eastern), his stories were the first fantasy stories I read which passed the Bechdel Test, had amazingly quirky characters (both male and female), and made me laugh out loud while enjoying the fantasy worlds he created, as well as the concept of practical magic. I learned to negotiate human relations, deal with my depression, and gain self-confidence with the little aphorisms he had in his books. I don't think I'll even be able to express just how deeply the Belgariad, Mallorean, and Redemption of Althalus affected me, even years after I first read them.
Just.
Ugh.
=(
