And before anyone freaks out over dermathofofpanjasbwerwjkhdv, it's just dust mites, which would explain a hella lot. I don't understand why people tell me carpeted places are better when clearly they are the bane of my existence. I guess over spring break I should look into getting a steam cleaner.

Yeah, dust mites are the cause of all sorts of allergy horrors. (And we really need to steam clean our carpeting (which is only on the stairs and upstairs) too. Bleh. The only thing more insidious is mold.

I just vacuumed the carpet under and around my writing table and I feel SO much better. I don't really understand people who think carpeted floors are awesome because then very little cleaning is involved?? I do miss wood floors though.

I'm really happy that I'm not THAT allergic to dog dander, though!

I suppose a steam cleaner, but a good vacuum cleaner with a HEPA filter will go a long, long way toward making you feel better, as will getting dustproof encasings for your pillows and occasionally running your pillows through the laundry. Yes, once you can control your floors yourself, having wood, tile, cork, or linoleum is the way to go.

Like, the whole pillow through the laundry? I'd sun my pillows but I don't get a lot of sunshine on my patio =(

Yep. It's kinda hard on them, especially the feather ones, and it takes extra time in the dryer to get them dry, but it offs the dust mites that live in them. Having allergies means having an expensive lifestyle in many small ways.

Another thing you can do that's less destructive to the pillows is run them through the dryer on high. This also kills dust mites, though it doesn't remove the dust as well as washing does, and it fluffs up the pillows something fierce.

So what's the tolerance for those lower numbers? I actually can't tell if you're allergic or not by reading them. Dust mites explains a lot, though. XD

From what I can tell, anything <1 isn't a big deal, it's only a big deal if I rub against them too much.

I'm sort of measuring by how I react to kitty dander XD That's a doozie; I can pet cats outdoors just fine but I can't touch my nose or face afterwards, and I wash my hands and sometimes face everytime I've come in contact with cats.

I'm not sure about the foodstuffs though. I've been able to eat shrimp in the past with no issues, and scallops too. I suspect it has to do with the shells--I remember one time eating a dish that had boiled prawnshells as part of the stock, and having a crazy "the stuff at the back of my throat is thickening and suddenly my saliva tastes different" sort of reaction.

I feel your pain. My son has eczema and we went bonkers trying to figure out the cause. During this period, we got to know a few people whose kids are allergic to just about anything and everything.

If you can afford it, Rainbow vacuum cleaner has very good reviews and getting a purifier will help make things better. And yeah, as you already know, no carpets or anything that can capture & hold in dust...sometimes, this includes plants as WELL>

Good luck and hope you get better soon!
